Credits: what filing costs, before it costs anything

Actions that reach a government system are metered in credits. The price list, your plan's monthly allowance, three-month roll-over, what is free, what happens past the allowance, and why one balance covers every paid service.

Some things Finocket does reach outside your books and talk to a government system: checking a GSTIN, raising an e-way bill, registering an e-invoice, verifying a PAN. Those calls cost us money, so they are metered in credits. Filing a return from inside Finocket is not live yet, so there is no filing price below; today you prepare the return in Finocket and file it on the portal yourself.

Your own books never are. Everything Finocket does with the data you already have (invoices, expenses, reports, the ledger) is included in your plan, and credits are only ever spent when Finocket has to pay someone else on your behalf.

What each action costs

Every metered action has a published price. There are no surprise charges and no rounding in our favour.

One balance covers the paid lookups and checks listed below. They all draw from the same wallet. There is nothing to buy per module, and no way to be stuck holding credits that the thing in front of you cannot spend. As Finocket adds paid services, they join this wallet rather than arriving as another thing to buy.

  • Free: connecting or checking your provider credentials.
  • 2 credits: an e-way bill (generate, update the vehicle, cancel or extend), and an e-invoice (registering an IRN or cancelling one).
  • Everything else that is paid: a GSTIN or PAN check, a return status, a GSTR-2B fetch, an IMS action, a KYC check, reading your electronic ledgers, a TDS e-file or 206AB check or a TDS FVU file, and the OTP round trip that signs you in to the portal. Each has its own price, shown in the price list inside the app before you run it.

What your plan includes

Every plan comes with a monthly allowance, granted at the start of your billing month:

  • Solo: 25 credits
  • Starter: 50 credits
  • Growth: 300 credits
  • Business: 800 credits
  • Suite: 2,000 credits

Returns are prepared for you to file on the portal yourself; filing from inside Finocket is not live yet. The allowance is a balance for the paid lookups and checks listed above, and the larger plans leave more room for them.

Unused credits roll over, up to a point

What you do not spend carries into the following month, up to three times your monthly allowance. That cap exists so a quiet month does not waste what you did not need, without credits piling up for ever.

Anything above three months' worth lapses rather than accruing forever. You can see what lapsed, and when, in your credit history.

An answer you did not want is still an answer

You are charged when the portal served your request, and an answer counts even when it is not the one you were hoping for. Looking up a GSTIN and being told the registration is cancelled costs the same as being told it is active.

If the request was not served (it was rejected before the portal did anything, or we could not reach the portal at all), it costs nothing. The meter charges on what the provider actually delivered, so a call that failed to get through never reaches your balance.

What costs nothing

  • A GSTIN answered from a copy you already have. Finocket does not re-ask the portal for something it has already been told.
  • The offline GSTIN checksum check, which catches a mistyped number locally.
  • Connecting your provider, and checking that the connection still works.
  • Everything that never leaves Finocket: invoices, expenses, reports, books.

Approaching your allowance, and going past it

Finocket warns you at 80% of your monthly allowance, showing the number you have used and the cost of the pack that would cover you. The pack it suggests is sized to what you are actually using, not simply the next one up the list.

Going past your allowance does not switch anything off. Further credits are billed at ₹1 each, so a busy month costs a little more rather than stopping your work part-way through.

If your balance genuinely cannot cover an action, Finocket refuses it before running it rather than failing part-way. You are entitled to spend your last credit. An action costing exactly what you have left goes through. And the free capabilities stay available at a zero balance: you can always check that your provider connection is working, however empty your wallet is.

Your credit history is a ledger, not a number

Your balance is the sum of its movements: grants, top-ups, what each action spent, and anything that lapsed. It is never a stored figure that could drift out of step with what happened. A correction appears as a new entry rather than an edit, so the history you read is the history that occurred.

Frequently asked questions

What actually costs credits?

Only actions that leave Finocket and reach a government system: checking a GSTIN or PAN, raising an e-way bill, registering an e-invoice, a KYC or TDS check. Your own books are never metered: invoices, expenses, reports and the ledger are included in your plan, and credits are only spent when Finocket has to pay someone else on your behalf.

How much does a filing cost?

Filing from inside Finocket is not live yet, so there is no filing price to quote; today you prepare the return in Finocket and file it on the portal yourself. An e-way bill or e-invoice action is 2 credits and checking your provider credentials is free; the other paid lookups and checks are priced in the in-app price list, which is the place to read a current figure.

How many credits does my plan include?

Solo 25 a month, Starter 50, Growth 300, Business 800 and Suite 2,000. Returns are prepared for you to file on the portal yourself; filing from inside Finocket is not live yet. The allowance is a balance for the paid lookups and checks in the price list, and the larger plans leave more room for them.

Do unused credits carry over?

Yes, up to three times your monthly allowance. That cap exists so a quiet month does not waste what you did not need, without credits piling up for ever. Anything above three months' worth lapses, and your credit history shows what lapsed and when.

The answer came back negative. Why was I still charged?

Because the portal served the request. Being told a GSTIN is cancelled costs the same as being told it is active, because the work was done. A request that was never served, because it was rejected before the portal acted on it or we could not reach the portal at all, costs nothing.

What happens if I go past my allowance mid-month?

Nothing switches off. Finocket warns you at 80% of your allowance and shows the pack sized to what you are actually using; past the allowance, further credits are billed at ₹1 each. Only if your balance genuinely cannot cover an action is it refused, and then before it runs, not halfway through. Free capabilities, like checking your provider connection, keep working at a zero balance.

Am I charged twice if I look up the same GSTIN again?

No. A GSTIN answered from a copy Finocket already holds costs nothing; it does not re-ask the portal for something it has already been told. The offline checksum check that catches a mistyped GSTIN is free too.

Can I check where my credits went?

Yes. Your balance is the sum of its movements (the monthly grant, any top-ups, what each action spent, and anything that lapsed) rather than a stored figure. A correction appears as a new entry instead of an edit, so the history you read is the history that happened.
